tension-controlled loading or a mixture thereof. Cyclicloading tests to model earthquake loadings are also feasible. Porepressures measurements are created either electronically with pres-certain transducers or manually with null pressure indicators. Consolidation test equipment of a variety of load ranges and typesis available. Consolidation tests applying loads up to 50 tsf onthe sample are possible. In addition, the test may be conductedusing back pressure method to saturate the soil sampler. Research can be performed to study the seepage problemsassociated with earth dams, open braced cuts, and so forth. In addition, model studies on the bearing capacity of footings or piles arepossible. Hydraulics Laboratory A laboratory mainly for demonstration purposes. Equipmentconsists of a Flume with a varying gradient, water quantity measur-ing devices such as Short Tube, Orifices, Weirs, Venturi Meter, and Reynolds Quantity. Investigation perform can be conducted on manyof the units. College of Engineering / 81

Water Pollution Manage Laboratory Capabilities consist of analyses of both water and wastewater sam-ples, in both physical, chemical and biological regimes. Laborato-ry and supporting gear enable total studies in the fol-lowing locations: water analyses, wastewater analyses, stream andestuary studies, waste treatability research, unit operations, bioas-say strategies, pilot plant research, tracer studies, and completeinstrument analyses. Instrument analyses capabilities include: atomic absorption, total carbon, organic carbon, distinct ions, gas chromotography, spectrophotometric and gravimetric analyses. Special regions are obtainable for unit operation research in waterand wastewater therapy. A properly-equipped machine shop hasbeen established so that special gear can be created andbuilt for model-prototype studies. A new laboratory is beneath building and will be equippedfor investigation and development perform in connection with the Ph.D.system in Environmental Engineering and Science.
